Your company has an important meeting or event on the horizon, one that will consume valuable resources of time, energy and money, yet at the same time offers the promise of bringing about meaningful change. An outside speaker is called for as part of the program, but who, and on what topic?

Your speaker dossier spans two extremes. At one end you’re offered “substance” speakers who possess actual knowledge of a business topic. While these speakers know their material, the talk is often sleep-inducing (though this is not a total loss since, if government figures are to be believed, most people are sleep deprived). Upon awakening, the audience may be afforded the opportunity to purchase the speaker’s book or 21 cassette series. Some will no doubt do so, and will depart confident in their intent to study the materials only to ultimately store them next to the unopened materials from last year.

At the other end of the spectrum is the entertainer. Magic acts, juggling, hypnosis, pet tricks, knife throwing – you name it - thoroughly entertain the crowd and result in positive “speaker evaluation” forms. In some cases, a business message is woven in. Trouble is, a month later no one recalls a word, or more importantly, a concept. As a result, nothing changes in the way your business is conducted.

Herein lies an opportunity for the speaker who fuses elements of both styles. (No, not both sleep-inducing and non-substantive!) A speaker who delivers a substantive message, in an entertaining way, that brings about some form of positive, lasting change in behavior.

Into the breach steps Robert Slater. The keys to Bob’s talks are as follows:

Substance. Bob’s messages cut through the usual, pedestrian fare and offer only those concepts and “differentiators” that, when implemented, will truly produce results.

Clarity. Making an impact in a short period of time requires that concepts be distilled to their essence and presented in a memorable way. Toward that end, we’ll be “thinking in threes” (and threes, and sometimes even more threes) to get the message across clearly and simply.

Humor Well, understated attempts at it, sans the shtick. To make the proceedings both more fun and memorable.

Whether it is an abridged version of a Famous by Friday® essential business knowledge session or a technical skills seminar, or a topic that your company needs most at a particular time, Bob speaks from experience, and the audience will know it. Bob’s presentation will move your company closer toward your goals, and help make your meeting a success.
